In 2005 I decided to stop flying. It had become too stressful, too anxiety-inducing. I was anxious before departure, during the flight, during my holidays. I couldn’t even enjoy the holiday or weekend because I was already thinking about the return flight. The only moment I felt fine was when the plane’s wheels touched the runway in Geneva. For five years I refused to get on a plane again. My husband takes planes like the bus (he travels a lot for work) and loves travel; one day he told me this couldn’t go on. I always answered that I didn’t need to travel to be happy. My son was born and then I told myself that he and my husband would also become slaves to this phobia. I finally wanted to get rid of this fear and feel free.

I had heard about this course… I told myself that in three days they weren’t going to make my phobia disappear. I went without really believing it. In September 2010 I took the course and met wonderful people — both the team and the participants. Being with people who understand our phobia feels so good!!! I loved those three days of compassion, understanding and support… in short, three fantastic, emotionally intense days.

Here I am two years after the course, able to board a plane again, without that negative, destructive anticipation, with the wish to coach and to come back whenever I can to say hello at the course. Thanks to Eric and Fabienne I was lucky enough to do a ZH–GVA flight in the cockpit… I’ve been on cloud nine ever since. I now see the plane as a friend, not an enemy. I know how a plane flies, how the crew works, safety on board… things I knew nothing about before and that reassured me enormously.

I’m moving to South Africa in two months and I think that without this course I would never have had the courage or the desire to follow my husband on this adventure. Now I’m looking forward to leaving!! Sometimes there’s still a little apprehension, but nothing compared with “before the course”.

If you’re reading this, you want to move forward, to get out of this “prison” — but you’re still hesitating… you’re afraid to take the step… so don’t hesitate any longer: go for it!!! After the course it won’t be over; you’ll still find just as much support in the forum.

A big step toward freedom…
